RACE REPORT #352 - December 13th 2025 (MPnm, BTCCnm)
Despite having just five drivers turn up for our final event of 2025, it turned out to a very enjoyable and pretty long afternoon and evening at FRC. Drivers present were Peter, Steve, Warren, Keith and I. Besides us five drivers, Merryl again attended and was his usual great help with the marshalling. He also took two really nice pictures which are featured amongst the others in this report.
After qualifying the two scheduled classes, we decided to run the endurance first, as it would take the longest for a single race. Despite the 150 non-stop laps of the race, the finishing places were still very close, particularly between the first two cars.
The next three races were for our BTCC class. Four drivers qualified, as Keith arrived just after the session and from these results we knew the races would be close, the difference between pole and grid position four being just 0.262 seconds! The race results confirmed this, each race having a different winner. Unfortunately Warren missed the final race, as duty called!
We had an interesting incident on one lap during the endurance race. Warren entered the back straight in the outer lane, as I did just behind him on the inner lane, both throttles fully open as we all do to maximise the speed on the straight. In the second or possibly less that it took to get to the downhill X lane change section - with him still just ahead of me - he switched lanes. I believe I still have pretty good reflexes, but they weren't fast enough to prevent my car from running into his and in fact driving through it with the help of the Zakspeed's snow-shovel shaped front spoiler. He called a drive-through on me, but quickly agreed that his car would have lost speed in the manoeuvre and we left the positions as were, with me just ahead of him. I can see that this situation repeating itself in the future, but we also don't want drivers to take advantage of lane changes to intentionally drive through people. We need to give some thought to this and have a discussion on how to best deal with it.
It was a very enjoyable final event, having our third and final boardroom meeting well after dark, then packed up till the new year begins in a couple weeks.
