We had a total of eight drivers turn up for our 349th event for our Kitbash, Vintage Sports GT and Vintage Sports Prototype class races. Ramesh again honoured us with his attendance, bringing along his always extremely well prepared cars which he shared primarily with Luke. Other drivers in attendance included Peter, Steve, Warren, Keith and myself, all hoping to put in some good driving and come out with top three podium results.
Qualifying showed that Ram would be in a dominant position, however the rest of the field expected some close competition amongst the group and so it turned out, with some interesting and surprising race placings. Unfortunately, Peter had to leave after the first round of races, however Keith stepped in to take his place, allowing us to have all races fully subscribed.
There were a number of the regular de-slots and collisions, however I experienced an unusual one in the second VSPR race when the right vertical front axle holder broke on my Ferrari P4, causing the axle to extract itself with one wheel still attached, whilst the other rolled off into the scenery. I thought that I'd have to retire from the race, but Ram suggested running it without the front axle, which I did and actually finished in second place. Immediately after the race, Steve correctly protested my driving the car without the front axle and I realised that he was right to point out that the car was not legal without front axle and wheels. So the car was classified a non-finisher, placing last in the race results.
Despite my personal problem with the Ferrari, it again was a great evening of close and enjoyable FRC racing.
